Russia’s first mobile modular substation (MMS) with a capacity of 40 MVA has been put into operation in the Irkutsk region.
At the end of 2021, SPECENERGO completed a large-scale project to manufacture Russia’s first mobile modular substation (MMS) for a voltage class of 110/10(6) kV with a single transformer capacity of 40 MVA.
MMS is made of two modules: high (HV) and low voltage (LV). In the HV module installed packaged gas insulated switchgear (PGIS) 110 kV and a 110/10 kV 40 MVA power transformer.
For the safe transportation of a transformer of such power, specialists of ” SPECENERGO ” have developed special semi-trailers for heavy-duty vehicles of universal design with reinforced bearing spars. The LV consists of a block container with an installed 10 kV complete switchgear (CS), a general substation control point (SCP) with RPA systems, APC and life support systems (lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning). The modules are mounted on a semi-trailer, which makes it possible to repeatedly transport the substation on public roads.
The need for such MMSs is underpinned by the high load of stationary transformer substations, the disconnection of which poses a great threat to socially significant and critical facilities. This MMS will be used to organize the power supply system for consumers in Irkutsk and the Irkutsk Region — as a backup source for the period of reconstruction and repair of existing transformer substations, power supply to consumers during unplanned outages and unloading of networks during peak loads.
